Literally.
Parker Boyer, senior, and Regan Boyer, freshman, are brother and sister.
“It’s kind of weird being on the same team,” Parker said.
Another pair of siblings was Emily, senior, and Samantha Prothe, junior.
Sam Rourke, senior, and Sarah Rourke, sophomore, were also siblings on the team.
“We’ve always done sports together. It’s not bad, I like it,” Sarah said.
Another duo of siblings is Corey Fedor, junior, and Ayla Fedor, sophomore.
“He motivates me. It’s actually better having him on the team,” Ayla said about her brother.
Many cross country runners found themselves with injuries. Among them was Ayla Fedor.
“There is something wrong with my hip. Coach told me it was because she thinks my legs are two different lengths, which kind of scares me.”
Like Fedor, Sarah Rourke also dealt with an injured hip.
“It just started hurting me one day and my hip popped every time I walked,” she said.
Another runner with an injury was junior Hope Waisner. Waisner said she had a problem with her Achilles tendon and had shin splits.
All three runners said they were not able to participate in a meet.
“I was pretty disappointed. I felt like I was letting my team down and that I wasn’t really an important part of the team if I wasn’t running.” said Rourke.
Each of the girls have been finding things to help themselves cope with their injuries.
“I stretch really well before practices and I ice the places where I’m hurt. And I let my coach know when I’m hurting worse than usual.” said Waisner.
Coach Lesley Wilson said to prevent injuries, she tells her runners to stretch every day, ice anything sore, and has them run on soft surfaces.
